The Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC) North Course will hold the 2018 ROWONTARIO Masters Championships event on Sunday, July 15. The City of Welland is happy to once again host an event that attracts Masters rowers from across Ontario and the United States from 2018 through 2020.

The ROWONTARIO Masters Championships is a competitive event that helps masters athletes prepare for the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, which takes place the following month. The event attracts many spectators because of its status as a premier event for Masters athletes of all levels, making the spectator-friendly WIFC the ideal facility to host the event.

The Partnership

The City of Welland has maintained a great relationship with ROWONTARIO for nearly 10 years. The City of Welland and ROWONTARIO value each other and are dedicated to maintaining the world-class reputations of both the venue and the regatta.

Relationships with the local rowing community are a priority to both the City of Welland and ROWONTARIO. The hosting agreement will significantly focus on volunteer recruitment, engagement and training due to the City of Welland listening and responding to stakeholder feedback.

The Welland International Flatwater Centre

In addition to enhancing the local rowing community, the City of Welland will continue to maintain and improve the WIFC. Since the 2015 Pan Am Games, which were hosted at the WIFC, the North Course has seen vast improvements making it a world class venue for various flatwater sports. It’s important to the City of Welland and ROWONTARIO that the facility meets the high standards required to host the championships’ events.

Since the WIFC hosted the 2015 Pan Am Games, the North Course has seen vast improvement making it a world class venue for various flatwater sports.
