St. James Church, at the corner of Oakdale Avenue and Merritt Street, is being redeveloped into a unique condo building that will feature one and two bedroom luxury brick lofts. The historic church provides an antique setting that is blended with modern accents and fixtures for an architectural project that is very new to the Niagara Region.

Many of St. Catharines’ long-standing historic buildings are undergoing redevelopment for both residential and commercial purposes. In the Merritton community, there has been significant success with these projects, including the historic Keg restaurant building and the Stone Mill Inn complex.

Over the last few years, condo development projects have spiked in the Niagara Region. Demand for residential condominium development is a result of a combination of factors including an increase in people moving from the GTA, as well as a move toward high density infill in Niagara. Due to this demand developers have found, and keep searching for investment opportunities in the area.

Growing up in Niagara, I have many fond memories of Port Dalhousie. Port Dalhousie, or Port, was always a destination. Lakeside Park, Lakeside Park Beach, the Pier, its Range Lighthouses and the Carousel, were all huge draws; not only for me and my family, but for fellow Niagrans, Ontarians and the rest of the world – especially when the Henley Regatta came to town. Port has also been home to some crowd-pleasing restaurants such as Murphy’s, Albert’s and the Port Mansion, and is still home to local favourites such as PIER 61 Bar & Grill, the Kilt and Clover and Rozie’s Breakfast Café to name a few.

The Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC) North Course will hold the 2018 ROWONTARIO Masters Championships event on Sunday, July 15. The City of Welland is happy to once again host an event that attracts Masters rowers from across Ontario and the United States from 2018 through 2020.

New renderings and architectural drawings have been released for the redevelopment project at 63 Lakeport Road in Port Dalhousie now known as the Harbour Club Condos project. If you're interested in learning more about this redevelopment project, the City of St. Catharines is hosting a drop in open house on February 22, 2018 from 6-8 p.m at the Port Dalhousie Lions Club.

Highway 55 in Virgil (Niagara-on-the-Lake) has undergone significant revitalization over the last few years. 1561 Niagara Stone Road (Hwy 55) is the latest confirmed retail development and will be anchored by Tim Horton’s and the LCBO.

Premier Kathleen Wynne recently announced a $155 million dollar strategy to address the ageing population on November 7, 2017.

Current healthcare systems are insufficiently equipped to meet the broad range of healthcare and social needs of older adults. This is unfortunately true due to the fragmentation of care, poor coordination of care and lack of patient involvement in their decisions and preferences.

With the aging population of Niagara, it is becoming clear that investment is needed in new retirement residence development, elderly care facilities, or retirement communities. There are two large new developments within the Niagara region that are taking advantage of land development opportunities in the region to address this issue.
